One million and counting: Emirates reaches major Starlink Wi-Fi milestone
High-speed internet now available on 36 aircraft across the fleet
DUBAI – Emirates has crossed a major milestone in its inflight connectivity journey, recording more than one million customer connections to Starlink Wi-Fi just seven months after introducing the service across its fleet.
The achievement highlights the rapid adoption of the airline's complimentary high-speed internet, with passengers consuming more than one petabyte of data since the rollout began. Feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive, with many travellers describing the experience as being "better than at home".
More than 60 Starlink-equipped Emirates flights now operate every day, allowing passengers to stream entertainment, join video calls, browse social media, play online games and stay connected with family, friends and colleagues throughout their journey.
In-flight connectivity
The milestone reflects strong demand for Emirates' next-generation connectivity service, which is currently available on 33 Boeing 777 aircraft and three Airbus A380s. The airline said installations are continuing at pace, with additional aircraft receiving Starlink technology every week.
Emirates has steadily expanded its onboard connectivity over the years. It was among the first commercial airlines to introduce internet access on the Airbus A380, when first-generation systems offered less than 1Mbps of total aircraft bandwidth.
Its existing inflight Wi-Fi service already enables customers to access messaging, email, web browsing and social media on most flights, with complimentary internet available for all Emirates passengers.
Faster speeds
The introduction of Starlink marks a significant leap in onboard internet performance. Starlink-equipped Airbus A380 aircraft can deliver more than 2Gbps of combined bandwidth, allowing customers across all cabin classes to enjoy seamless complimentary connectivity, including live video calls and high-quality streaming while flying at 40,000 feet.
Following the successful deployment across the Boeing 777 fleet, Emirates has now expanded the service to its Airbus A380 aircraft. As the world's largest passenger aircraft, each A380 is fitted with three Starlink antennas designed specifically for its double-deck configuration and large passenger capacity, providing stronger coverage, greater capacity and improved performance throughout the aircraft.
The airline also plans to introduce Live TV streaming through its award-winning ice inflight entertainment system, complementing the streaming services already available on passengers' personal devices.
Fleet rollout
To speed up deployment, Emirates has begun carrying out Starlink installations at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai, enabling more aircraft to be equipped with the latest connectivity technology in a shorter timeframe.
With 36 aircraft already fitted with the system, the airline said it remains focused on extending complimentary ultra-fast Wi-Fi to as many passengers as possible.
The Starlink rollout forms part of Emirates' broader investment in enhancing the customer journey. Alongside one of the aviation industry's largest fleet retrofit programmes, the airline continues to introduce upgraded cabins and onboard products across its network. So far, 128 aircraft have undergone complete cabin refurbishments, featuring Premium Economy, refreshed Business and First Class cabins, upgraded Economy interiors and enhanced onboard experiences aimed at improving comfort, choice and connectivity for millions of travellers.
